Itinerary: | ||||
Day 1 Arusha - Tarangire National Park (120km - 2 hours) Pick up from your hotel in Arusha at 0800am and drive on tarmac road 120km to Tarangire National Park (2,850 sq km or 1,005 sq mile’s) for the afternoon game viewing in the park, a home to Lion, Leopard, Elephant, buffalo, Python, Zebra, Oryx, Impala and more. Over 450 species of birds have been observed. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. A smorgasbord for predators and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared Oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world. On drier ground you find the Kori bastard, the heaviest flying bird the stocking thigh ostrich, the world's largest bird and small parties of ground horn bills blustering like turkeys. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge. Meal Plan: {L, D}. Day 2 Tarangire National Park - Serengeti National Park (275km - 5 hours) After breakfast we head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti National Park is a home to lion, leopard, Elephant, Cheetah, Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Eland, Wild dog, Gazelles, Crocs and more. Lot of birds includes the Eurasia migrants. Dinner and Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}. Day 3 Serengeti National Park You will have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. These volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain game including leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of interesting bird life, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We return for Dinner and Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}. Day 4 Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater Rim (145km - 3 hours) Wake up at 0600 hours for early morning game drives in Serengeti at 0900 hours back to the Lodge for breakfast. Here in the Serengeti region you can often watch wildebeest and zebras next to lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs. Lunch is taken at a picnic spot before a slow drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. On the way you will pass the Olduvai Gorge where the English pair, Louis and Mary Leak pioneered excavation work. In the sixties some of the earliest archaeological deposits of human evolution was found and a small museum (visit optional) documents these discoveries. Then check out and drive with lunch and game viewing en route to Ngorongoro Crater Rim. Dinner and Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}. Day 5 Ngorongoro Crater Tour - Lake Manyara Serena Lodge (60km - 1 hour) Wake up early morning for breakfast then at 0730hours drive to Ngorongoro Crater with your Lunch Packed where you will descend into the Crater floor (19.2 km of diameter, 610m deep, 304 sq km) for game drives. All the Big five Rhino Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant live in this wonderful caldera, others are Zebra, Hippo, Wildebeest, Hyena and more. Ngorongoro Crater is often called 'Africa's Eden', the '8th Natural Wonder of the World'. A massive extinct volcano, its towering tree lined walls drop thousands of feet to a "Noah's Ark" of animals on the verdant floor below. This breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands, fresh springs and the large soda lake. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. Nowhere else can such a diversity in wildlife be experienced in such a short period of time. Dinner and Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}. Day 6 Lake Manyara National Park - Kilimanjaro Airport (180km - 3 hours) Breakfast at 0600am. Pick up from Serena Lodge at 0700am and drive with lunch box into Lake Manyara National Park (330 sq km or 127 sq mile’s) on the base of the Great Rift Valley for the afternoon game drives. This national park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park), located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake. Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s bird life. Thereafter drive to Kilimanjaro Airport for the flight home/Zanzibar. Meal Plan: {B, L}. | ||||
