Trek along the dramatic Lemosho Route for stunning scenic views on a hike to the top of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. A beautiful trail that sees you passing through the rainforest before crossing the Shira plateau and heading up to the Lava Towers. Enjoy amazing views of the surrounding Kilimanjaro National Park as you head higher up the mountain and discover the famous African glaciers. An exciting climbing safari that challenges and rewards you as you come to learn more about yourself during your time on this majestic rock. Reach the top of the ‘Roof of Africa’, filled with emotions as you look over the world below from the iconic viewpoint.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrivals day, Airport – Moshi
You will be met by one of our representatives at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and taken to your hotel in Moshi for the evening. You can expect a short briefing from your guide before going over some of the details of the trek and covering the operation of all the major equipment, with specific attention to the emergency equipment. Enjoy some dinner before relaxing for the remainder of the evening.

Day 2: Moshi – Kilimanjaro national park- Mti Mkubwa
After breakfast, you will drive to the Londorosi gate of the Kilimanjaro National Park where you will register for the trek before driving further into the park to the start of the Lemosho Route. Upon arrival, you will have a picnic lunch before meeting the rest of your climbing crew and beginning your trek. Begin by making your way through the rainforest to the Mti Mkubwa Camp on a relatively flat hike. In the forest, you will see a lot of beautiful flowers and plant life and if you are lucky you might also see black and white colobus monkeys and some other forest wildlife.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Today will be a beautiful hike as you make your way out of the forest and up the foothills of the mountain. Stop for a picnic lunch in the moorland zone on the west side of the Shira plateau where you will be able to see the old lava flows as you enjoy some sun before continuing your journey and arriving at your camp for the night. A slow walk today with beautiful views of the fascinating rock formations and surrounding landscape.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp –Fishers point - Moir Hut
Today you will make your way across the middle of the Shira plateau, a world heritage site and enjoy a picnic lunch at fishers point. After lunch, you will continue making your way up the mountain on a shorter hike through the moorland zone. Arrive at the beautiful Moir Hut Camp located at the base of a massive lava flow where you will spend the evening.
Overnight at Moir Hut Camp | Elevation: 4,200m/13800ft
Day 5: Moir hut Camp- Lava tower- Barranco Camp
Today you will hike through the alpine desert for 6-8 hours. You will start by climbing over steep hills with few rocks before steadily making your way uphill to the lava towers. Here you will stop for lunch around noon. After lunch you will descend along a dusty trail to your camp for the evening.
Overnight at Barranco Camp | Elevation: 4,600m/ 15330ft – 3,940m/13044ft
Day 6: Barranco camp to Karanga Camp
Today you will have a shorter hike as you make your way up the Barranco Wall for some tricky climbing as you hold onto boulders to make your way along some of the steep paths. At the top of the wall you will be able to look down into the Barranco Valley for spectacular views of the landscape. Make your way up and down the rocky trail to the Karanga Valley, the last water point on the mountain. Reach your campsite on the top of the ridge where you can enjoy a tasty lunch.
Overnight at Karanga Camp | Elevation: 3,995m/ 13106ft
Day 7: Karanga to Barafu Camp
Today you will continue the steep hike upwards, making your way past a lot of boulders and shattered rock as you cross the alpine desert. You will pass a steep ridge until you reach a rocky section where you will find your next camp situated alongside steep rock faces. Relax for the rest of the day as you prepare for an early push to the summit in the morning.
Overnight at Barafu Hut | Elevation: 34,600m/15330ft
Day 8: Barafu hut- Summit (Uhuru peak) - Mweka hut
You will wake up around 11:00 pm and have some tea and snacks before heading for the summit around midnight. The climb begins by crossing some steep rocky paths before zigzagging towards the crater rim. Reach Stella Point around 06:00 am for an amazing sunrise before your final push to Uhuru Peak. Reach the top of the roof of Africa and experience the excitement and joy of accomplishing your goal as you take in the magnificent views. Relax for a short while and take some photos before descending back down the mountain. Reach Barafu Camp for a rest and some brunch before continuing down to Mweka Hut for the evening.
Overnight at Mweka Hut | Elevation: 5,895m/19341ft – 3,100m/10065ft
Day 9: Descend from Mweka Hut to Moshi
Today after breakfast you will join your climbing crew for some group photos and to sing the traditional Kilimanjaro songs. You will then begin your final descent through the rainforest as you make your way to Mweka Gate. As you pass through the forest keep your eyes peeled for wildlife including the beautiful birds that sit in the canopy above you. Arrive at the gate and collect your summit certificate before driving to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and refreshing Kilimanjaro beer.
Overnight at Weru Weru River Lodge | Elevation: 1,640m/5380ft
Day 10: Moshi – Airport
In the morning you will make your way back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back after an amazing trekking safari up the highest peak in Africa.

Accommodation Details:
Accommodation
You will spend 2 nights at a chosen hotel in Moshi, one night before and one night after trekking. The room in the hotel will be shared per 2 people, during trekking you will spend your nights in a mobile tent. One tent will be shared per 2 people each. A personal room and tent can be available based on a personal request.
